Scholarship specific information
Hazel Park resident graduates are eligible to receive their first certificate or Associate’s Degree for free at Oakland Community College.
This is a "last-dollar scholarship", meaning students will draw from other funding sources before being awarded this scholarship.
Pell Grants are exempt from this rule and do not affect the amount you receive from the scholarship.
Hazel Park resident graduates are eligible to receive, at minimum, the equivalent funding for an Associate's Degree at Oakland Community College.
Scholarship funds can be applied to tuition, on-campus room and board, associated fees, and other applicable educational expenses.
This is a "last-dollar scholarship", meaning students will draw from other funding sources before being awarded this scholarship.
Pell Grants are exempt from this rule and do not affect the amount you receive from the scholarship.
Students are eligible for $500 per semester, for a total of $2,000.
Scholars who currently attend Oakland Community College, or whose in-district community college is Oakland Community College, may receive up to 6 credits covered.
Scholars whose in-district community college is not Oakland Community College may receive up to 4 credits covered.
Scholars who would like to take summer courses at another Michigan college or university may receive up to 4 credits covered at the equivalent cost of their in-district community college.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Each scholarship amount will be based on the pricing of the equivalent course at the Scholars’ in-district community college, which is likely a fraction of the cost of summer courses at their main postsecondary institution. To ensure our scholarship funding benefits as many Scholars as possible, we encourage students to take courses at their in-district community college.
Students are eligible to receive up to $500 each semester as reimbursement for their mandatory books and supplies in their courses and programs.
For students at Oakland Community College, this funding is automatically available at each campus bookstore.
Eligible items for reimbursement include textbooks or books (physical or digital), software and technology, specialty protective or career apparel, and other school and studio supplies.
